BACKGROUND Currently a Junior Architect at Mitchell Studio, out of New Haven, collaborating with project managers, digitally revising markups on plans, elevations, sections, and creating presentation graphics for publications and award ceremonies. I graduated from Connecticut College with a B.A. in both Architectural Studies and Art (with a Graphic Design concentration).
PERSPECTIVE An observer by force, my journey as a designer began with a unique challenge. Growing up with a learning disability, I struggled in school throughout my elementary years. To avoid humility I was forced to observe to complete assignments. I would watch my classmates closely in hopes of understanding how they were able to do things I couldn’t; how they handled books, where their eyes were drawn, and where they focused their attention, I would even pretend to quiz my classmates on spelling and vocabulary in order to write a coherent sentence. What “lit my fire” was the fear of being wrong or different.
Today that fear has evolved. While I still observe human interactions with their environments – whether 2D, 3D, or beyond – my perspective has shifted. What once held me back, unknowingly prepared me for the world of design, fueling my creative approach and informing my designs with empathy and insight.
