OVERVIEW The Telegraph Poster is a graphic design collaboration with a local record store in downtown New London, CT. The primary objective was to display the diverse musical spectrum housed within The Telegraph across the Connecticut College campus. Through meetings with the collaborator, displaying the store’s unique range of music became the primary objective “from Vivaldi to Nine Inch Nails.”
CONCEPT The heart of the collaboration lies in the design of a distinctive typeface, one that reflects the eclectic nature of The Telegraph’s collection. The typeface was composed using a 3×3 grid of album covers and record discs to create a built-out alphabet. Each letter is a visual amalgamation of musical elements, resulting in a typeface deeply rooted in the essence of the record store.
IMPACT The Telegraph poster serves as the primary graphic intended to visually encapsulate the entirety of The Telegraph’s vast and diverse collection. This graphic serves as a gateway, inviting people to explore the myriad of offerings within the store. The “New” graphic acts as an ever-evolving component of the project. It exists as an InDesign template, intended to be updated regularly throughout the year with the accumulation of new records. The graphic serves as a live bulletin board, keeping the Connecticut College community informed about the latest releases available at The Telegraph. By integrating the newly released album covers into the existing typeface the graphic becomes a living testament to the constant evolution of the record store’s collection.
